2013 Agenda

Message from MMA President & CEO Chuck Hadden

Manufacturing is the largest single sector of the Michigan economy by gross state product. The reinvention of Michigan is dramatically improving the competitiveness for manufacturing and the manufacturing sector is responding by driving the state’s ongoing economic recovery.

Manufacturing has created more than half of the total jobs in Michigan over the last two years, adding 65,500 new jobs. This is real progress but more work needs to be done to address Michigan’s competitiveness for new capital investment and further job growth.

The manufacturing sector is unique. Unlike other sectors, manufacturers don’t just compete with companies down the street or across state lines; they compete against companies everywhere in the world. Our competitive market is truly global in scope.

Our Agenda is designed to break down barriers to increase Michigan’s competitiveness in the global marketplace. Our Agenda calls for many policy changes that will eliminate uncompetitive regulations, streamline inefficient bureaucratic processes, reduce unnecessary costs, address the talent crisis and other policy changes to make Michigan manufacturers more competitive.

We look forward to working with the Snyder Administration and legislators in both the House and Senate to continuously improve Michigan’s position in the global economy. We believe passage of our Agenda will allow manufacturers to continue to lead the state in job growth and increase economic prosperity for the people of Michigan.

Sincerely,

Chuck Hadden
MMA President and CEO
