The present hazardous waste fees expire in 2013. Without changes to the fee structure, the program could revert to the federal government and be administered out of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 5 Offices in Chicago. MMA supports most of the stakeholder group recommendations to change the fee structure to ensure that we have an adequate EPA-approved program. MMA will also continue to work with the DEQ to achieve efficiencies in the hazardous waste program. Specifically, the Department should develop an electronic system that eliminates paper manifests.
