Under the Governor’s Executive Order 3012-14, the regulation of underground and above ground storage tanks was moved from the DEQ to the LARA Fire Services Office. The move was completed in 2012 and will be implemented in 2013. MMA will work with the Fire Marshall to modify the existing rules, which were adopted last year, calling for certification of storage tank operators in the state. The Michigan rules are much stricter than those of other states in the region and must be changed to improve our state’s competitiveness.
