Background: Charter schools provide options to those trapped by local failing schools and create new opportunities for technical training needed in modern manufacturing. Positive steps have been taken to turn around failing schools. Included in this effort was an increase in the number of high quality charter schools. However, this expansion is limited to low performing districts.

MMA Position: MMA will work to ensure that choice is an option for all children in Michigan through expansion of high quality charter public schools statewide, rather than limiting choice to under-performing school districts.
