Background: The misnamed “Employee Free Choice Act” (EFCA) threatens our economic competitiveness by eliminating the secret ballot for union representation. The legislation proposes to replace the time-honored secret ballot with a “card check” system. It would also allow a federal arbitrator to dictate the terms of labor contracts.

MMA Position: MMA will continue its efforts to defeat the anti-competitive, job-killing Employee Free Choice Act at the federal level, and will urge the Michigan Legislature to continue to express its disapproval of the Act.
