Local Government Consolidation

Background: The cost of government can be reduced by consolidating both local units and school districts. This can be achieved through budget incentives and through statutory changes that remove barriers to consolidation such as changing the Urban Cooperation Act, which requires local units to pay the higher wages of the two communities.

MMA Position: Encourage local government consolidation through budget incentives and statutory fixes.
