Tax Policy Reform

Michigan must have a business tax system that is competitive for manufacturers compared to tax rates for manufacturers in other states and nations. Manufacturing remains, by far, the largest business sector of Michigan’s economy by gross state product. And, with the industrial sector’s inherently high economic multiplier benefits, jobs, and huge capital investment, Michigan’s industrial assets are targeted aggressively by other states for attraction. To be competitive, the tax system must recognize that not all sectors are the same.

MMA will pursue the following tax policy reform measures:

Members Testify To Eliminate PPT
In addition to testimony from MMA’s Mike Johnston, several prominent Michigan manufacturers who are among the state’s largest job providers, also testified in support of the package of bills to eliminate the industrial Personal Property Tax (PPT).

AEG Study Shows PPT Repeal to Create 45,000 Jobs
The proposed reforms to Michigan’s Personal Property Tax (PPT) on manufacturing equipment will help make Michigan’s industrial sector more competitive and increase job creation and capital investment, according to an Anderson Economic Group (AEG) study released this week.
