05/20/2013 Ralco Industries To Build New HQ In Auburn Hills   
Ralco Industries Inc. has submitted plans to construct a new 125,000-square-foot world headquarters and manufacturing facility on 18.8 acres located along the north side of Taylor Road in Auburn Hills.

Said Steven Cohen, director of community development for the city of Auburn Hills: “Ralco could have built this new facility anywhere in the Midwest, but they want to be here. That’s great news not only for the city of Auburn Hills but also the state of Michigan.”

Michigan’s defense contractors gathered this week to boost business with the defense sector at the 2013 Michigan Defense Exposition, staged at Macomb Community College’s Warren campus by the Michigan Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association.
05/17/2013 West Michigan Manufacturers Address Talent Shortage Via New Training Programs   

For the past couple of years, West Michigan employers have been reporting a critical lack of job candidates with the right technical skills, a gap that has been growing as the area economy heats up from the prolonged recession in the manufacturing sector.

AMP is one of several employer-driven initiatives available in West Michigan aimed at recruiting people who want to work in manufacturing and providing them with the training and educational tools they may have not received in high school or college.

05/17/2013 DeWys Manufacturing Writes Own Curriculum, Slashes Turnover   

When a career fair turned into a $10,000 disappointment, Jonathan DeWys could have walked away chagrined about the lack of skilled workers. But instead, he channeled his frustration and the lessons learned into developing a better solution: a new, in-house educational program.

That planted the seed for what the company calls DeWys University.

The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) praised the House Education Committee for its action on legislation designed to grant students the opportunity to experience hands-on and project-based learning both inside and outside of the classroom.
05/06/2013 Fortune 500: GM, Dow, Kellogg Among Top Michigan Companies   
The Fortune 500 list features 19 Michigan companies this year. General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co., Dow Chemical Co., Whirlpool Corp. and TRW Automotive Holdings topped the list of Michigan-based companies for the second year in a row.
05/06/2013 Rec Boat Holdings Creating Jobs as it Jets into New Market   
Hundreds of employees stood shoulder to shoulder in the cavernous shipping department of Rec Boat Holdings’ Cruiser Plant as it was announced that as many as 135 new jobs, ranging from engineers to production workers, will be created in Cadillac as Rec Boat Holdings announced a major move to manufacturing jet boats under the renewed Scarab brand.

05/02/2013 MMA Opposes HICA Tax Increase (MIRS)   
The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) today reiterated its opposition to Sen. Roger Kahn's (R-Saginaw) plan to increase the 1 percent Health Insurance Claims Tax (HICA).
05/01/2013 Manufacturing Skills and 60 Jobs Expected with New Mobile Training Lab   
Manufacturers in Northern Michigan need employees with specific skills in order to grow.  An effort to meet that demand is under way with the purchase of a mobile training laboratory  that would allow for at least 60 new jobs to be created in the Boyne City business park and an estimated 300 others across the rest of the region.
05/01/2013 MMA Opposes HICA Tax Increase, Points to a Better Solution   
The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) reiterated its opposition to legislation introduced by Senator Roger Kahn (R-Saginaw) that would increase the 1% Health Insurance Claims Act (HICA) Tax. The MMA opposes this legislation that seeks to increase employer health care costs and reduce the state’s ability to remain competitive.
04/29/2013 Programs Help Companies Realize Opportunities Beyond Borders   

According to the Michigan Economic Development Corp., Michigan companies exported $23.4 billion in goods and services to Canada in 2011, 46 percent of the state’s total global exports.

While many companies have found a great deal of success with exporting, it is not something meant for every business. Experts say it requires a long-term strategic outlook, lots of research, and the ability to actually export your product or service should you manage to get international customers.

Gov. Rick Snyder joined State Sen. Joe Hune, State Rep. Pete Lund and business leaders to announce a plan for no-fault auto insurance reform that will lower the cost of insurance for Michigan drivers, continue to provide the best catastrophic injury protection in the nation and ensure a fair and sustainable system into the future.
04/26/2013 Ford Reports Record Quarterly Profits in North America   
Ford's profit worldwide was $1.6 billion in the first quarter, the company’s 15th consecutive quarter in the black.
04/24/2013 'Michigan Needs to Do Better' Preparing a Qualified Workforce   
On behalf of its 48,500 farmer members, Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) recently lent its voice to a broad coalition of organizations speaking out in favor of reforming the state's secondary education requirements. Seeking more curricular flexibility to allow high school students to pursue career-technical education (CTE), the state's largest farm group signed onto an open appeal to lawmakers to support House Bills 4465 and 4466.
