Legislative & Executive Reception |
Makin’ It In Michigan |
The “Legislator/Manufacturing Advocate of the Year” award is MMA’s highest public policy honor presented to a state policymaker who has provided essential leadership in regard to manufacturing issues over his or her career. The “Advocate of the Year” awards are presented to state senators and representatives who have shown important and ongoing support for the manufacturing industry. The MMA 2007 House and Senate Advocates of the Year were recognized at the annual Legislative & Executive Reception held May 13 in Lansing. The House Advocate of the Year Award winners were Representative Steve Bieda (D-Warren), representing the 25th District, and Representative Paul Condino (D-Southfield), representing the 35th District. Winners of the Senate Advocate of the Year Award were Senator Judson Gilbert (R-Algonac), representing the 25th District, and Senator Mark Jansen (R-Grand Rapids) hailing from the 28th District. The awardees were honored for their commitment to finding a bi-partisan solution to reforming the state business tax system. All four lawmakers were intricately involved in developing the Michigan Business Tax (MBT), credits to the MBT that encourage investment and growth and in eliminating the damaging expanded tax on services.
