Sponsor

The Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) has represented the needs of Michigan manufacturers since 1902. As the state’s leading advocate for the manufacturing industry, MMA works to promote and maintain a business environment that allows manufacturers to compete and grow.

Cosponsors

Clark Hill PLC is a full-service law firm, with more than 100 attorneys, and offices in Detroit, Birmingham and Lansing.

Deloitte Consulting and Deloitte & Touche are part of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and deliver world-class assurance and advisory, tax and management consulting services through nearly 30,000 people in more than 100 U.S. cities.

Why Nominate

The Michigan Manufacturer of the Year Award serves to focus public attention on the important, positive and tangible contributions individual manufacturers make to their employees, customers and communities. Past recipients have been the subject of well-deserved press coverage statewide and in their communities, and have used their Award status to promote their company and its successes. Many recipients choose to use the honor as an opportunity to boost employee morale by showing appreciation to their associates for their part in earning the recognition.

Eligibility

Anyone, except MMA staff, may nominate an individual employed in Michigan’s manufacturing industry. (Nominees for the Special Achievement Award need not be currently employed in the manufacturing industry.) Self-nominations are encouraged.

Awards

Overall Awards and up to two Finalist honors may be given in the following categories:

  • Large Tier, encompassing manufacturing leaders of companies with more than 500 employees.
  • Small Tier, encompassing manufacturing leaders of companies with fewer than 500 employees.

Judges may also bestow a Special Achievement Award to recognize leaders within the manufacturing industry who clearly deserve recognition, but whose exemplary achievements may not fit within the general criteria areas. (For example, an individual who is retired but who has made an impact in industry over his/her career or a leader in a suppost industry who has made a significant contribution to the improvement of Michigan manufacturing.)

Awards Presentation

The 2009 Michigan Manufacturer of the Year, Finalist and Special Acheivement Award recipients will be announced during Michigan Manufacturing Week, the second week of May. Awards will be presented to recipients at the MMA CEO Forum luncheon, to be held May 12 in Lansing.

Acknowledgment of the award recipients will be made to statewide media and posted on the MMA website. The winners will be featured in the July/August issue of Michigan Manufacturing Insight magazine — distributed to more than 6,000 subscribers — as the focus of the cover story, and will have their names engraved on the award display in MMA’s headquarters lobby. Recipients will also have the opportunity to use the award logo on their company—s literature, advertising and websites.

Selection Process

A panel of distinguished judges, representing corporations, universities, associations and other organizations serving manufacturers, will select the recipients. The committee will base its decisions primarily on the materials supplied by nominators. Failure to complete the nomination form properly, or submitting inaccurate information, may be cause for disqualification.

Description

Using the following five criteria areas, describe why the nominee should be named a Michigan Manufacturer of the Year. Each criterion will be weighted as a percentage of 100 as indicated. The judges will determine recipients based on the content and quality of the completed nomination forms. The submission of additional information about the nominee and the company, such as letters of recommendation/commendation, press articles and company brochures, is highly encouraged. If you wish to include supplemental materials, please send them to:

MMA Communications
P.O. Box 14247
Lansing, MI 48901-4247
517-487-8543

The more information provided, the better able the judges are to evaluate the nominee. However, we do not want to overburden nominators. A simple, straightforward nomination that includes complete information in each of the criteria areas is sufficient. Judges do, however, appreciate some support materials. When considering the criteria areas, it may be helpful to ask yourself, “What would I want to know if I were a judge?”

To nominate an individual for the Special Achievement Award, please descibe why you believe the nominee deserves recognition. You may use the criteria areas below in your description and/or other information you believe would be pertinent to the judges in their evaluation.

By submitting this form you verify that all information is correct to the best of your knowledge.

Please note: If you wish to keep a copy of this form for your records, please paste your answers into a word processing document. Not all information entered into this form may print in its entirety.
