John “Mac” MacIlroy serves as MMA’s president and CEO. He assumed the leadership position of the nearly 3,000-member association in August 2000. Formerly, he was president and CEO of the Virginia Manufacturers Association in Richmond.
MacIlroy received his undergraduate degree from Yale College, and graduated from Navy Officer Candidate School. Following service in the Navy, he received his law degree from the University of Virginia, where he was a Rhodes Scholar candidate, and his masters degree from Harvard, where he concentrated on policy and management studies at the Harvard Business School and the Kennedy School of Government.
MacIlroy serves on the Executive Committee of the National Industrial Council and was named to the Michigan Small Business Advisory Board in 2007. He is also a board member of the Michigan Society of Association Executives. He served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Manufacturers and is former Chairman of the Conference of State Manufacturers Associations.
MacIlroy is an adjunct professor teaching courses in management, organizational development and government relations. He was designated “Executive-in-Residence” at the Michigan State University Center for International Business Education and Research in 2005.
