Vice President of Industrial Relations

David Zurvalec represents the interests of the manufacturing community
on employment issues to the legislature, regulatory and judicial agencies
and administrative officials. He is responsible for the areas of employment
training, equal employment opportunity, health care benefits, labor relations,
occupational safety and health, unemployment insurance, wage and hour
and workers’ compensation issues. In addition, he coordinates the
MMA Lawyers Committee and its amicus curiae (friend of the
court) brief program, which advocate manufacturing industry positions in legal
disputes.
Zurvalec has been with MMA for more than 25 years, serving as associate
vice president of industrial relations, director of industrial relations
and government affairs attorney prior to being named vice president in
1992. Before joining MMA, he was a legal researcher in labor relations
for the Michigan Supreme Court.
Zurvalec holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the
University of Michigan. He received his juris doctor degree from the Thomas
M. Cooley Law School and is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and
the United States Supreme Court Bar. In addition, Zurvalec has completed
a post-legal master’s degree in labor and industrial relations through
Michigan State University.
Zurvalec has served as a Commissioner and Vice Chair of the Michigan
Employment Security Commission. He was re-appointed to the Michigan Board
of Health and Safety Compliance Appeals in 2002 and also serves on the
boards of the Michigan Safety Conference, Employers’ Unemployment
Compensation Council and is a member of the Industrial Relations Research
Association.
