From time to time, MMA sends out a Quick Poll to take the pulse of Michigan manufacturers on important industry trends and issues. Our most recent poll invited MMA members to share their experiences and advice with regard to their efforts to diversify their business by seeking out new industry sectors and geographic markets. While the results of polls like these are far from scientific, the information gathered is always enlightening. That’s certainly the case with this particular poll, which provided some intriguing insights from industry leaders. Here’s a quick overview of the responses we received.

MiBiz Why West Michigan Should Care About the Detroit International River Crossing

News papers and airwaves across the state have been buzzing about a proposed bridge over the Detroit River to Canada. Many in west Michigan are asking, “So why do I care about a bridge in Detroit?” This is a legitimate question, and the answer is simple: because the Detroit International River Crossing will benefit the entire state.

MiBiz MMA Pushes for Changes to Cleanup Program

MMA and its members have long supported, and partnered in, cleanup and redevelopment efforts throughout Michigan. However, the state’s current Cleanup and Redevelopment Program (Part 201) is overly complex, bureaucratic, and has no clear endpoint for cleanups. This has led MMA to take on a leadership role in developing and advocating for necessary reforms to Part 201.

Business Review Western Michigan Sustainable Manufacturing for a Sustainable Michigan

Sustainable manufacturing. Everyone is talking about it. But what does it really mean? According to the Department of Commerce, “Sustainable manufacturing is the creation of manufactured products that use processes that minimize negative environmental impacts, conserve energy and natural resources, are safe for employees, communities, and consumers and are economically sound.” There’s a whole lot packed into that definition, and the quests to be “Green” and Lean both contribute to the overall goal of sustainability. Add the relatively new push for renewable energy to the mix and the convergence of all three separate movements makes the drive for sustainable manufacturing more powerful than it has ever been.
