Yet, we stood proudly with Governor Jennifer Granholm on a sandy beach in Saugatuck recently as she signed new legislation that will regulate future water withdrawals from both the Great Lakes and the groundwater supply.

Transforming for Tomorrow

Since I arrived at the Michigan Manufacturers Association (MMA) nearly eight years ago, I’ve watched closely as the state’s industrial sector has faced some of the most difficult challenges, economically and politically, of our generation. The substantial job losses within the manufacturing community are not a secret — the pressures of globalization are real and are squeezing our job providers every day — and the sluggish national economy is not helping Michigan’s situation. On top of those hardships, the price of raw materials, energy, health care and compliance with regulatory standards are quickly consuming available dollars that could be reinvested to create growth.
