Metalforming Congress Heads to Grand Rapids this Fall

Tired of the hassles and expense of overseas business-building trips? The Congress, to be held September 14-17 in Grand Rapids, will bring together metalworking executives from around the world to share ideas and best practices. Lansing-Area Firm Looking for Used Diamond Wire Saw

A company is interested in purchasing a used diamond wire saw to cut slices off its niobium ingots, 9” diameter. As of now the company uses a horizontal saw which leaves a very rough, uneven edge. Niobium is comparable to copper, but softer (yield strength ~20,000 psi and density ~ 8.57 g/cm3). If there is a better way to cut the ingot, the company would welcome suggestions. Wire EDM does not seem practical for this application as it’s very expensive for an initial investment and takes a lot of time to cut.
