| Collaboration Works“The MMA-sponsored Michigan Tooling Group (MTG) has seen the benefits of collaboration under the Michigan Renaissance Recovery Zone act in many ways… Consolidation of health care programs and coordinated purchasing of tooling components led to 10% and 13% reductions, respectively, for the group on average in the first year. The MTG worked with Muskegon Community College to secure a grant — the only one given to a West Michigan industrial group — for consolidated training between the companies in 2006. The MTG has also worked with Davenport College to develop marketing goals and new sales opportunities. The MTG companies have realized an increase in sales through sharing work and employee resources. With backing from the MMA, the MTG is currently working to get the Special Tools Lien Act changed to improve the success rate of collection for all Michigan tooling shops.” Rocky Johnston, President, Michigan Tooling Group MMA has successfully launched five tool and die collaboratives since 2004 and our organizational structure has served as a model for other collaboratives.
